Leadership????

Friday we had a meet of our business Unit, An occasion organized by HR people once in a while.. Supposed to be quarterly but not necessarly so..
As usual the venue was in the western suburb of Mumbai.. Lower parel.. and for me meets spell as "T R A V E L" be it any kind of meet.. Not that I dont like travelling.. But the occasion should be worth the travel!
So after a lot of fuss with my PM and some kind of efforts from her side to provide me the returning transport, we all started off. My PM had talked to the transport co-ordinator, our ex-PM and had got an assurance for me that I will be taken to any railway station on the Central Railway. I was content with it.
The bus ride to the location from office took 2 hours. Put up on the last seat of the bus, the start was bumpy.. It took 1.5 hours from Mhape to Lower Parel. The road improved as we hit the express highway, till then had quite a few jumps!
As we neared Lower Parel, it dawned on us that the driver did not know the exact location of the destination. I overheard the guys next to me , lets name them A and B , saying "Ye galat directionme leke ja raha hai" One of the transport co-ordinators called up A, and the one side conversation was something as follows
A: "Ha Bol" "Mujhe nahi pata kahan hai.. Ruk B ko puchta hun"
A to B: tujhe pata hai na jagah?
B to A: haan pata hai
A: "Haan B ko pata hai, Hum pahunch jaate hai" "Haan me dekhta hun "
A to B: Ye driver sahi ja raha hai na
B to A: Abhi tak to aisa hi lag raha hai.. Are yahan left turn lena tha .. isne right le liya.. Aage se koi left hoga..
A to B: Dekhte hai.. Are ruk kyun gaya? wo banda gaya na dekhne .. usko pata hoga..
B to A : Nahi re usko bhi nahi pata, wo dekh niche utre puchne ke liye ..
Me (burst in cos I cant be a silent spectator) : Tumko raasta pata hai to jaake bolo Driver ko
B: (smiles) puch raha hai na wo
Me : (Speechless)
after some time on the wrong route
A to B : Chal jate hai
B to A :Haan chal
(Both are still not getting up on their feet)
Finally the driver found the right way and took to the place "High Phoenix"
A to B : aa gaye barabar jagah par
B to A: Haan sahi jagah par pahunch gaye.. Chal chalte hai.

And Mr B was the first to get down the Bus :-)
The meet was put up in Phoenix Mill compound, Bowling Arena. It was my First visit to any bowling arena so was a bit apprehensive about it. As soon as I entered I found few of my training friends and we started off with the pleasantries and discussion about whos still in the company and whos not! They took me towards the bowling alley and made me give a try.. And Lo!I hit all but two in my first throw.. The ball was heavy and somehow took me back to my schooldays when I played Shotput.. No similarities except the weight but probably that was the only thing I could relate to.. After trying my hand fr 2-3 times , I retreated to search more acquaintances..
Meeting up people with whom you have worked at a point of time is a nice experience!. You forget the arguments and grudges and meet with a fresh mind. At informal occasions as these, its changes your attitude towards people.. Also these occasions provide a conducive environment for cribbers, you can hear a lot of sensible and non sensible comments from co-workers and if you have extendable ears, from Top to bottom !
We had a small award distribution function. The awards were for Valuable contribution towards the Project and company and Letters of Appreciation. As per the citations read out, the Award winners had displayed a strong sense of commitment to work, good teamplay, proactive approach for the project, etc. Both A & B were in this list of awardees for Valuable contribution!!!
Later as the DJ started mixing songs, one by one all Project managers took their team for introduction with the SuperBoss , the head of the BU. I dont know how many names he heard or remembered in the din, but that might help him to know faces.
After some time, even My boss took us for th introduction.. The music was blasting in full volume.. hope he remembers atleast our faces :-)
My return travel had not been decided till then. Ex-PM and my PM had asked one of the Senior people , who incidentally stays at Dombivli to accompany me. This Senior came to me towards the end of the program and the conversation was as follows:
Senior : Aparna, its 7 oclock now, and the program will end at 7:30. Parel station is just a little distance away from here, You can get a taxi for it.. Or you can go by our bus to some station.
Me: Okay. We can leave now, if you are starting now.
Senior: Actually I am going to roam around a bit here.
Me: Okay I will be here till you are back. Or if I am leaving earlier willleave a message for you..
Senior: No, I might not come back to this place, might leave directly.
Me: Hmm, Okay I will go by myself. thanks for the directions! :-)
After he left, I felt like laughing aloud.
Anyways, the program ended in some time. Finally I left on my own.
And then I met the infamous taxidriveres of Mumbai. On hearing Parel railway station , each pointed to the other driver. I finally asked one , is it too near? He said yes go straight down this road. Unsure of the raod, I asked in a roadside shop. He said "Khup duur aahe madam, Taxi karun ja" Again the search of taxi. Finally the 9th taxi I asked said "Baith Jao"
And thus I reached Parel railway station!
Luck favored after that, No queue at ticket window, Whatever Change required was available with me. As soon as I got down on the platform, A Dombivli Local was indicated, I climbed into the train without any pushing. Got inside and found 2nd seat to sit. And then slowly moved to the Window seat!
At the end of the day, I had seen various forms of leadership quality!

Finally what I felt at the end was that "Alls well that ends well" :-)

"How are you"

The most asked, most heard rhetoric question "How are you?"

Are we really concerned when we ask this question? Or we just throw this bunch of words when we have nothing else to start?
Do we expect the other person to say "I am not fine .. I am too troubled with my life..and I want to crib and cry" I see that we dont expect such replies , unless from a close friend. or if someone has a really good heart.
What if someone really says that? What is the reaction? A raised eyebrow with the thought " Oh my God! I have my own problems, now this person is goin to start cribbing..Save me !!!!"

On my Office Phone I get regular calls from the tele-marketers of credit cards. " Hello Madam, How are you ? I am calling from XYZ bank and we are offering you this lifetime credit card"
At the first question and pause I say "I am not fine" , I am curious as to how do they react.
One person was baffled and then forgot his next lines. One another disconnected saying"Sorry Ma'am" . The interesting one , who was a good salesman , said ,"Dont worry ma'am , After you listen to the offer I am presenting you wil be fine !"

One more place I see this question is on Chats and Orkut. I see a long lost friend online, I am happy and I ping "Hi , Long time no see .. How are you?" or simply "hi hru" and the response is always "I am Fine" or simply "f9"

Once I did reply ..somewhere., "I am not fine, Pareshan hun apni lifese " and know what , I am still waiting for a reply.. the person just dint respond!!

Seems we are always in search of Happiness..and we keep searching it in others.. I want to go the other way round..

Being a Software Engineer....

Few things I did at sometime due to being habituated ..

1. I work on tool PL SQL developer which is based on Oracle. The Short-cut for executing a query is F8 . So Even when I am refreshing a webpage I click on F8 and wait for it to get refreshed !!

2. This is the most common one.. In MS Outlook, to send a mail we need to click Ctrl+Enter. So when I mail from a Gmail or Yahoo account , I do the same and wonder why the mail is not getting sent ;-))

3. Login to Home PC using the Office user name and password! ( This is contributed by a friend)

4. Start Dialling with Zero from Home landline..( Too common again)

5. And the weirdest one I Did..
Standing in front of the Door at home, searching for my I-card to swipe and open the door, instead of ringing the belll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last one inspired me to write about the things I do.. :-)))))

Personal Effectiveness

Recently attended a training on Persoanl Effectiveness.. It was a part of my Individual Development plan suggested in my Appraisal.
It was quite an interesting training..
First we were to note down our strengths and draw a picture for anyone of the strength. Then we were divided in pairs and supposed to get a feedback about the picture from other person and then have a introduction with that person. After this exercise, we had to introduce the other person to the group and explain their picture.
Then there was a session on ENNEAGRAMs - Nine personalities. An idea of Greeks, that basically there are only 9 types of personalities. We had to go through Questionnaires and then the trainer would identify which is the dominant personality in each of us.
Also there was Johari window. I already have one online.
After the first day we had home work too.. To complete the Script Questionnaire..That was all about self, parents, Childhood impressions , thoughts about future..
The second day we discussed this Script. and further on ENNEAGRAMs, How to deal with the Nine personas.

The gist what I found is that, We need to keep talking, to ourself, to friends and take our thoughts in a positive direction. Analyze each thought, if it is logical or Not. Check at every instance, is my worry realistic.. or am I just imagining things..
Am i in this world or an imaginary world?
When we hit the ground reality, we discover ourselves..
and the Discovery is fascinating.. As I delved deeper inside myself, I found I had bound myself by too many beliefs and chains.. I found about my deepest fears, which ruled my decisions.. and now I will make it sure that they do not affect my decisions..
Taking charge of Self is something that everyone needs to do.. Lets see how successful I am !

Note for readers:
Please keep commenting on my blogs, and let me know if I am improving or vice versa :-)

Not posting..

I havent posted from long time..
seems nothing is making any impact on me.. Or i have been so used to everything happening around me..
But its neither.. Its just not to be made public..
I have got lot of work in my office..
I got this highly critical, highly sensitive, spanning the complete project etc. etc., task since two of my team-members put all the efforts to convince the boss the only I can do this.
This happend in my absence.. But now I have to be ignorant of this fact that happened and work and co-ordinate with the Boss and both of the team members.
So now I have Task tension, co-ordination pressure and keep an eye on the thing that no one misses out anything.. and stay always politically correct.
Ah.. How I miss being free of worries.. wanna just speed away .. as one of my friends scrapped me on my Orkut Profile snap.

P.S.: This is an afterthought and has added to my worries.. Will my Boss come to know of my blog? What will be the reaction? (25-Sep-2006)

Sweet Sea water?

Getting bombarded by the news of Sweet Sea water from morning.
and now got a call from outside Mumbai regarding the same..

Is it possible that Sea water loses its salty taste..
why not ? when fresh river water is added, the salt will be diluted.. In mahim, as they say Mithi meets the Arabian..
now she is Mithi, then she will make the water mitha :-) After all she has met after such a loong time.. might have thought Samundar ka pani "Kucch meetha ho jaaye.."

And then the news comes for a location in Gujarat..
Is it that we all are too insecure to feel that this is miracle? or are we awaiting a miracle to happen and all our troubles to go away.. like all the salty taste has gone away from the Mahim creek..

For that we will need to clean the Mithi, the source of water, our thinking and our perception of situation. We need to "do" something to forget our troubles, and just not 'hope' for some miracles..

Are we ready for it?

This is my blogger personality..

Dunno how much to beleive this..
Still.. posting :-)

Your Blogging Type is Pensive and Philosophical

You blog like no one else is reading...
You tend to use your blog to explore ideas - often in long winded prose.
Easy going and flexible, you tend to befriend other bloggers easily.
But if they disagree with once too much, you'll pull them from your blogroll!

Musings..

When I see a girl smoke or drink, how do I perceive it?
I dint like the girl intially.. but then I tried to look beyond her habits.. She is a nice person, quite an extrovert, considerate .. She took care her habits wont affect me.. Why did I not like her?
Consider a guy doing the same thing, will I dislike the person at the first instance?

On giving a further thought I found Yes, I really do not like such people at first instance. May be when I do come to know of better things about them , I can be friendly towards them.
But something in me dint make me comfortable with the girl. She was with me for hardly 4-5 days. May be I am really not the person who believes in Men Women equality?
But thats what I have seen around me .. A girl who speaks out her mind clearly is considered arrogant.. A girl taking initiative is considered over zealous.. and when I ask why I am branded the same way..

No I am not defending myself, I am ashamed of my perception of that girl. I should have treated her as I would have done to any other girl.. I should not have treated her differently.. Just like any other person who has fallen in bad habits.. and should have tried to know her more.. Should have tried to be with her if she was lonely.. But I dint do it..

Next time, let me remember this..

Trip to Jodhpur

I had been to Jodhpur recently.. for a friend's marriage. It was a very nice experience!
Visiting a new area, meeting new people, and facing a different climate..
It was just a 3 day trip , but it gave me new eyes, a different view - of myself , of others, of what I have been knowing and doing.

The toughest part of the trip was explaining my country's traditions to foreigners.. I realised that we being brought up in India, have known things implicitly.. Like an Arranged marriages, wearing turbans, etc. But they are puzzled!. Its amazing for an American girl to understand how can any Indian girl get married to an absolute stranger and go with him only becoz her elders, her parents have chosen the guy for her. It was difficult for theAmericans to understand, why some rituals are auspicious..Lighting a fire and going round it in Marriage seemed to be a source of pollution to them .

It made me think, do we Indians know why we do it? Do we ask questions and find that these rituals have meanings and significance of their own or we just blindly follow them? IF its blind faith , its superstition, but yes .. if I understand it , it isnt!

Snaps for the trip in two links..
One with the purpose of visit and all people involved http://www.esnips.com/web/HemendrasMarriageinJodhpur
and the other with the Places we watched in Jodhpur

Theres lot more to be written about the trip and people met.. Some other time !

Aj unki ruh jism se 'azad' hai

Zakhmon ko yun ched kar ghaav fir bhar payenge kya

Ruh rahe 'azad' meri ibadat ye ho qabool

Waiting for the Rains

I like the rain, rainy season .. Getting drenched in rain is something I like very much , Except for 26th July 2005 rains , I have never hated it.. So I am waiting for the Monsoons ..
Water mesmerizes me..
be it raindrops, be it a pond, be it a flowing river, be it a gushing waterfall or even the roaring sea waves..
I can stand for hours looking at it without a single thought in my mind..
From Childhood, whenever I have seen a water body for the first time, I have taken a plunge in it accidentally..
First incidence I remember is my Mothers Home-town. It was month of May and River Pravara had been reduced to smaller ponds on riverbed. We all were sitting on steps on the banks at place where there was a lot of water. One of my chappals slipped and I jumped behind it to get it back straight in water .. Till I could get hold of it , I was half drowned.. A lady who was nearby caught hold my hand to keep me from drowning.. Something that comes to my eyes even now is the green water above my head ..
The first time I saw a sea was at Ganpatipule , a place in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.. A very renowned temple of Shri Ganesh just next to the sea..Playing in the sea waves, building sand castles, I dont remember these things, But yes I had tasted salt water when I met waves coming to the coast and prostrated in the sea . :-))
Then it was a family picnic to Kondeshwar.. I just couldnt resist sitting on the rock in the water while crossing the river ther..though the water was only knee deep..

The most recent and striking experience was when I was sitting on the steps of Kaleshwar, a Shiv mandir near our college and our fav freaking place. River Godavari flows slently there..
It was evening time , the sun was about to set and my friends were chatting on a topic which wasnt of my interest.. As my usual course of action, I was watching the ripples in the water intently forgetting the world around me and I felt a sudden pull from water.. It was like the water had called me in it.. I was just about to get up when my friend tapped on my shoulder
"Chala 7 Vajle .. 7:30 paryant gate chya aat jaychay aaplyala"
(Come on its 7 already.. have to reach the college gate till 7:30) - 7:30 was the time till we girls could stay out of the campus. too early na ;-)
This brought me out of the trance very abruptly. When I remember this day, I still donot know why I was so lost in thoughts the day.. But this has been a memorable moment. I went back to the river so many times after that, but the force of attraction never returned..

When I try to analyze this affinity to water, I find my both sun and moon zodiac are earth signs.. I was born in winter season.. so nothing related.. Only thing is I was born in a town set on riverbanks May be that has given me this attribute..
The funniest part of loving water is that 3 of my crushes have been Aquarians ;-))

PS: The snap is of the river Netravathi, on the banks of which is my native place, my birth place , Bantwal.

Reserving my opinion..

So much on reservations... think on these lines...

Baki General wali public is always crying over the reservations, But none thinks from the perspective of the reserved public..

1. It creates an Inferiority complex in the reserved people. They feel they just cant survive without reservations!. Be it admissions to institutes for graduation or to premiere institutes like IIT, IIM, AIIMS, IISc., etc.
Now those people have lost confidence in securing jobs in private sector.. They feel they wont get a job if there are no reservations.

2. The right to Healthy competition is snatched away from some caste people by giving them a definite Quota. They develop an relaxed attitude towards competitive exams and end up competing only a handful few of their category.

3. These reserved people lose credibility. "Arey ye kya reserved quota se aaya hai.. kuch aata hai kya usko? " these people have to listen to such derogatory remarks.

Sochnewali baat hai.. Who will believe in the quality of Indian Education and India Inc. if the quota is in vogue.. And quantity ? 5 year Medical course is completed in 10 years, 4 year Engg in 8 , so the shortfall of professionals will prevail!
Why is the Govt. of India bent upon spoiling the now shining Image of India ? Cant they read the revolt of the Youth ? Cant they read signals sent by the Sensex? Cant they sense the countrywide note of dissent?

Just for the few votebanks - which they generally buy always buy on money , and reservations not going to help any bit - Why are these people spoiling the future of the country?

(No Subject)

Last post on March 23 .. Have grown lazy or too busy? A bit of both probably..
or maybe I cant keep the flow of posting constant.. After all nothing is constant..

"Everything is Relative"
Is it ? or is it not? If one person gets happy with a incident, some other is angry, someone else can be dejected , some can be concerned and some more people can be indifferent.
Whatever I post here, Its personal for me, very dear to me..
A close friend will also like it, s/he will constructively criticise it. Since its my friend I will take it positively.
Some will skim through and go away . Some others might add a comment or two. Since its someone other than my friend, if its a hurting comment , I may or may not consider it proper, Taking it sportively ? cant say..
The moot point is same action can be interpreted in many ways by many people..
As Einstein has already put it
Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour.
Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute.

THAT'S relativity.
The time remains the same.. but the way it seems is relative..
Isnt it same with our life..Everyone is running to find something.. to attain Success.. Success is again relative ( now it brings lot many relatives is also true) but when does one say s/he is successful? After earning lot of money? respect? fame? dependable friends ? Satisfaction and pride on their parents faces? Satisfaction deep inside themselves? How is it decided? This will be purely an individual view and I cant say will match with every other person..
But then if everything in life is relative, something should be constant..Like Einstein proposed that the speed of Light is constant( there are proponents saying even tht is not constant) .. what is it in life?
Someone told me, its God, or the unknown power of the Universe.. When I think of it , I beleive it.. Yes.. That power does remain constant.

PS.: This post I started sometime back.. completing after 2-3 weeks. and put it for myself.. So I can remember this thought process at another point of time...Take it relatively ;-)

Bunsoup, Pitsheera ?

This is something I always remember when someone asks a waiter "Kya kya hai?"
Few years back ( few is more than 10) , we used to go to Mangalore , our native place by bus. It was a tiring 24 hour journey, with occasional stops for evening Nashta, Dinner, Morning breakfast , lunch, tea-break, etc. I was travelling with my father, having a nice time.

Morning time, we stopped at Belgaum for breakfast , a regular halt place..Being only two of us, we could complete the morning oblutions quickly till the fellow travellers were still coming out of the bus. Then we sat down at a table for having breakfast. Being a roadside dhaba, and it was still in 90s there wasnt any Menu-card. So judging the area , Anna( my father ) asked him in Kannada what was available for breakfast.( Now I dont remember the exact words ) .. He replied
"puribhaji idlisambar bunsup pitusheera" Anna asked me my choice. I thought ' Puri bhaji kaal sanje khalli , Soup aata itle sakani nakka, ani pitsheera kasane makka gotna.. gottu nattile travel karatana khauche nakka ' I opted for Idli-sambar. Anna opted for same and ordered Idli sambar.
As we were waiting for the order to come up, Anna asked me why I did I choose Idli-sambar. I told him my thought process - I had eaten puri bhaji the earlier evening , I dint want to have "soup" in the morning and dint know what "pitsheera" was. So opted for Idli :-)

Anna started laughing at me leaving me puzzled. I asked him what was wrong with my thought? Meantime our Idli sambhar had come. As I started struggling with the spoons to eat idli (that was my favorite experiment -eating with spoons) I pestered on asking Annas reason for laughing.
He replied "
puribhaji idlisambar bunsup pitusheera mallyari puribhaji, idlisambar, bunsu, uppitu, sheera" and started off laughing again. For the uninitiated , Buns is a sweet puri made from maida, and my favourite dish. Uppitu is the upma and Sheera is well known. At this point, even I started off laughing when I realised that I had actually considered the 3 dishes as 2 .
I also felt a little bad that I had missed out on my favorite dish. Being young then, I dint have the capacity to have that too with the idli sambar.
But I still remember the "Bunsoup" and "Pitsheera" , when a waiter anywhere starts spilling out names of dishes in their trademark rap style.

PS: As I am posting this, Anna rectified me, it was Yellapur and not Belgaum. That says, he too hasnt forgotten the morning.

Damn the CopyRights..

The Star Attraction of the Elephanta trip refused to be mentioned. Says he has a copyright ..

Anyways, the Star was Ramesh , who was to join us at 5 pm after his Classes. It was a nice meeting with (Nag and Ram) esh taking shots at each other.
Then we all went to "Suvidha" a Kamat Group Hotel to taste the delicacies.. We all settled on Idli Vada Mix. The Idli house venturers kept reminding of their Idli house visit.
Interesting part of Suvidha was that as Anant tried to click a snap of rest of us, a waiter offered to click a snap of all. This pro-active behavior impressed us all. Since we had two media people and one Management student , this move was discussed in detail.
Then we all dispersed Anant going by his different way, rest of us in the same train, getting down at various stations.

It was really a nice trip, totally unplanned ! See my Elephanta memory is still vivid. ;-)

Trip to Elephanta Caves..

Last Friday , I thought I was overworked. Fed up of my workload, I felt like going away from the whole atmosphere for a change.. Cos I have experienced Change brings in a lot positive things.. So I followed up with my brothers for the pre-registered, planned Naval Dockyard Trip. But it wasn’t on cards. There wasn’t any confirmation received. Then I suggested the Elephanta Caves trip. Luckily they agreed. Also we decided ( All on Yahoo Messenger, This part of chat was done on Yahoo!) we could call our Orkut and ULHAS friends.. The More the Merrier. So it was a unusual Sunday morning , had to get up at 6 - which I don’t do on normal days even- and reach Mumbai CST station at 8:30. My cousin had come home previous night. so I had company :-)Else it would have been a lonely stretch..
Mumbai CST
Reaching there, we( Ananth and Me) found that my brother, Abhi, and Nagesh were already there sipping Coffee. As obvious , we joined them in that. As we were discussing our regular topics, Yahoo groups of which we are members, their moderators, our Yahoo conferences, Orkut groups, Orkut Discussion topics, etc. Abhi found a interesting frame of BMC Building and got the camera to capture it. As we all followed, all of us found various things and we started clicking. ( Vaise do hi camera the, EK DigiCam and Ek AnaCam , But still everybody was looking out). Tap Tap ! Here is brand Ganesh Nayak , in his favorite "Lunch&Tea" yellow. As he already knew others, only I was introduced to him. Since he was the last member supposed to join at that time of the day, we started off towards the Gateway of India on foot. As globally known, Mumbai hosts a lot of Heritage buildings, and incidentally we saw many of them enroute. And the cameras in hand went click-click! :-P
Gateway of India
A magnificent structure in itself, and a Beautiful sight to see in the morning, when the Sun Shines at the Gateway. Built in 1911(Is this correct?) in the honor of King George V, it still stands intact in Republic of India. But our centuries older structures like the Stone caves of Elephanta and many others ?... Thts how we are tolerant! so we are different from others! Again going Click click for some beautiful snaps depicting "The Mumbai" and planning to make the Bangloreans of Internet communities jealous, we spent some time there. Finding our Economy Launch which started off towards Gharapuri - Islands where the Elephanta Caves are carved out in stone.
The Sea View
I wasn’t looking at the endless mass of water for the first time, but as always, when I see a water body, I was mesmerized. Water draws me towards it.. I like watching the waves dancing with each other on the rhythm of the wind. As our Launch went inside the see, we could watch the Mumbai Skyline..going farther from us and showing all the landmark buildings. Also many specs in the sea, growing to become Ships, Oil tankers, Watch-Islands( Watch-towers on Islands) with all the necessary security measures. Fortunately, "PHOTO GRAPHI" is not allowed on the Launches. But we enjoyed the trip watching all Sea-marks (Land-marks) and the commentary by Nagesh and Abhi. The last landmark was the Trombay Island, and just opposite was our Destination - Gharapuri! It was an amazing sight to have such a Nationally important structure openly in front of a world-famous tourist spot! Or is it an Illusion?
Gharapuri
Alighting from the Launch on land, after being water-borne, for 1 & 1/2 hour, we actually lightened the weight of the Launch. After a short discussion on to or not to try the Mini-Train, we decided to go by the 11 number vehicle. Only this way we could actually get to savor the salted "Bora" and "Avalo". Arey I shud not forget to mention the "Gharapuri Statoin" We dint this was the first Spell check for Words there.. Furthering we even found "Elephatnta". Then there was a "SHOT CAT to Canon Hill" instead of a Short Cut.
Awesome Caves
After buying the third ticket ( first was the Launch, second was at the entry of the Island and the third at the entry of the Caves) , we entered the premises of the caves.. An amazing coincidence is that the world famous face of Trimurti( Brahma, Vishnu,Mahesh) or "MaheshMurti" as it is called , faces directly to the 'Reactoreshwara' as if it is guiding it to unlock the infinite energy locked in infinitesimal particle. Being a science student , it seems an exaggeration, But since I have seen a Reactor under construction, I believe in similarity in an Atomic reactor and Shivalinga. To relate Indian "Mythology" or as I call it Indian Scriptures with Modern tech is a topic of controversy and I prefer to keep away from controversies. As we entered the Caves, it took us a different world altogether. As we knew, they are Rock-cut caves . The cool atmosphere inside, as opposite to the hot air outside was welcoming . The Magnificent sculptures, the minute details incorporated are fabulous. There is the Trimurti( Mahesh Murti) in centre. This has the Ardha-Nari-Nateshwara at the left of it. There are other portrayals of Ganesh, Nataraja-Shiva, Atmalinga episode-giving it to Ravana, Veerabhadra Shiva, and many more such Shivarupa etched in the Sculptures.. As the History goes, the Foreign invasions on Our country have destroyed these caves to lot extent. Probably only one of these is in the original unbroken form. That is one of the Dwarpals who is at a dark end. Else all of them have broken their parts.. There seems to have been some attempts to reinforce some sculptures with RCC , but in vain. They dont hav the originality. When we see the huge carvings we are overwhelmed by the art and minute details taken care.. At the same time the sad state they are in brings in the shame.. We havent been able to protect our heritages. Even today, do we take care that we dont throw the wastes in the provided dustbins? or are we careless enough to throw them in the easily available corner? After the , now usual , round of clicks with trial of some Photo tricks, we came out of the caves. Further venturing led us to way to go atop the caves. Trying to get the fun of climbing, we reached the top where the clear view of the span around was awaiting us.. the Whole stretch of the Gharapuri Island lay around us.. The breath taking view of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Skylines, the beautiful Trombay island in front.. My words fall short for the view.. After devouring the view, we headed to find a place to devour the oondis ( More about oondis on http://answerinwind.rediffblogs.com/ and http://ananthpai.blogspot.com/ ) and "adgai" a pickle of Kadgi. Wow! that was our reaction to the Oondis and Adgai..
Next Destination...SHOT CAT to Canon Hill ;-)
That was the board that led us to the Canon Hill, The Hill from where probably the ruler controlled the see around.. There is a rusty canon in place.. While Nagesh , Abhijit and Ananth were trying Camera tricks with the Canon like whistling thru it, smoking it as a pipe, playing handball.. Ganesh and I savored the cool breeze on the rocks. The 'Snap'pers were looking funny trying to adjust the view and distance. Finishing up we came out to the way downhill thru a an alley probably the rooms for storing the Gunpowder for the canons as well as the resting place for the canoneers. The way was quite lighted but the rooms were pitch dark..
Back to the Jetty
Watching the time and the heat, we decide to walk back to the shore to return back to Mumbai. On the way down, seeing the pearls and other sea-wares on display, I could not resist having a pearl tops. Very simple ones, but will be a souvenir..Thts wht I thought! (I doubt if they are real pearls..but tht was a second thought ) Our bantering was continuously on.. and After a few more snaps of our primate brothers.. finally we reached the jetty. On the way back, we were tempted to sit for a while idling away breathing in the sea, but a star was expected to join us.. There a Launch was waiting to take us to Gateway.. We climbed aboard it and lo! ..we were started on our way back.. In the span of one and half our we were back to Gateway, Ganesh slept halfway and we dint hesitate to click the nidrasana pose.
The Star Attraction
I have reached this part after typing for so many days in discrete packets..So will continue on the Star Attraction some other time..I hope I havent disappointed anyone ;-)

Randomly something..

Long time I dint post . was actually travelling extensively to see someting to write.
Collected a lot of things.. have them in mind but then dint get time to pen them down( I meant key in) Will soon put in one by one..

Today I saw two little kids walking down the street. A brother and sister, walking down the road with their mom. After some time, the boy started the race.. he went faster than his sister to overtake her, thenthe sister increased her speed.. soon they broke into a run to overtake each other.. they stopped only when their mother scolded..

When I was watching them, I remembered my days as a kid.. When I used to walk with my brother, I dont remember racing times, he might since he is older to me :-)
What I remember is we used to walk together.. race with other people on the way and reach the place together.. I do not know his philosophy, But even today I do not feel left behind by him.. That feeling gives me strength today.. Touchwood! we still share the togetherness very much..

Instincts..

I am not sure how my dear god works. Cos he gives Instincts.

Instincts are the worst things. They tell you many illogical things, you dont believe thwm , But when you seethings turn out the way , u are amazed. Are Instincts Wishful thoughts? Sometimes yes or probably never ? I am not sure. Instincts have saved me from wrong actions many times. Even in my professional life, I have stopped on taking a decision , only because my instincts, my sixth sense said I should not do it. And later I knew , If I had taken the decision , i would have been wrong.

Even right now , I was damn tired with my work. Just could not trace back a problem. I wanted to free my mind so I started writing..
As I thought of posting it, I wrote on 2-3 different topics..But My Instincts dont allow me to post them. They asked me to post on them. Have they got some ego too?

Nice one..

Found this poem.. Nice one

A year has passed, my life's the same
I still get upset when hear your name,
I close my eyes to picture your face
Still open them up to an empty space.
xxxxx
I still watch the door for you to appear,
Wanting your voice once more to hear,
Your footsteps coming I sit and listen,
The sound of your heart but the beat is missing.
xxxxx
I'll always be proud of you being mine,
For a good heart like yours is hard to find
The good and the bad I'll never forget
I'll always be grateful for that day we met.
xxxxx

Who was that unknown lady?

The "Firsts" generally make a mark on blogs.
Mera wala ek..

Yesterday, A saturday , I visited my Sister's Place Santacruz, Mumbai. long way from Dombivli but 'Dombivli Fast' was my carrier and BW case study gave me company. On my return journey, when we ( my 2 brothers and I ) were waiting for a bus, I saw a roadside saleswoman- carrying the colourful, plastic dusters - approached me.. Nothing new I know, and as anyone would have, I thought she came to me to sell her wares.
"Appko allergy hai na, Nariyal ka Pani lagao. Ekdam theek ho jaata hai"
(You have got allergy , isnt it? Apply some coconut water, it wil be cured)
I was stunned by that Kearali accented hindi words! I do have a skin ailment and getting it treated and I have always got a lot of advices on how it should be treated. Anyone and everyone I know have suggested n number of cures. Relatives, teachers , friends , one and all! But this unknown lady?
"Theek hai" I replied, and yet recovering from the bombardment.
"Nahi Likhke lo! Aap mere didi jaise ho, isliye bata rahi hun.. Likh ke lo aap!"
(Write it down!, you are like my sister, thats why I am telling this to you, Write it down!)
"Theek hai" I replied, now totally amazed by the forceful argument.
"Uska treatment chalu hai, jao aap" My brother brushed her aside.
She went away muttering something, dint get to hear that.

Brooding over it , now I think, wasnt she showing her human nature.. I wasnt at all related, not even a prospective customer, but she did walk up to me and showed her concern about my disease. I really liked it.

I still remember her face. and hope I dont forget her, atleast her gesture.
